Soviet IS-2 (Iósif Stalin-2) [Joseph Stalin-2] Heavy Tank (Early
production) 1944 - Beutepanzer IS-2 (r)
This IS-2, model belonging to
the first deliveries (actually it was an IS-1 rearmed
with the gun D-25T 122-mm.), was
captured by the Germans in April of
1944, near the area of Tarnopol. Probably was slightly
damaged after being hit by a cannon of 88-mm.
The tank has a lateral inscription indicating having received an impact of 8.8-cm.from a Tiger I, a distance of 1100 m. He was assigned to the OKW, in order to study the technical characteristics of these new models of Soviet Heavy Tanks.
The Tiger I in question belong to Shewere Panzer Abteilung 503 (sPz.Abt.503) and IS-2 (actually an IS-122 or IS-1 with 122-mm cannon.) Belong to the 11th Independent Guard Heavy Tank Regiment. The fighting took place around Tarnopol. Around March / April 1944.
The big sign on the turret (*), in addition to dissuade any combat unit would incorporate into its ranks (if it is reusable), gave preference to rail transportation to Kummersdorf Research Center, around 25 km. south of Berlin, Germany.
(*) Bestimmt für OKW = available for OKW (Oberkommando der Wehrmacht - High Command of the Armed Forces).

Beutepanzer IS-2 (r)
Estaba asignado
Este Tigre I
Alemania.
(*) Bestimmt für OKW = a disposición del OKW (Oberkommando der Wehrmacht - Alto
Mando de las Fuerzas Armadas).
